The article presents a study that explores the effects of the naturally occurring alginate polysaccharides on the proliferation of keratinocyte stem cells (SCs) in older population. It mentions the use of holoclone assay in assessing the SC frequency and the self-renewal of phycosaccharide-treated aged human keratinocytes. Results of the study indicate the possible manipulation of SC divisions using the naturally occurring agents for the treatment of wounds and ageing.
