Abstract

The article outlines the normal behaviour, development and problems of babies at six months of age. Topics covered include ability of infant to lift their head when prone, grasping objects, smiling and babbling sounds such as "oogoo" and "ahah", variable sleeping patterns and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Also discussed are breastfeeding, normal infant weight gain per week, nutritive and non-nutritive sucking, stooling patterns, infant-parent bonding and changes in the tone of crying.
