The article discusses the detection of three clonally related Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-producing clinical isolates of Citrobacter freundii in a hospital during late 2009 and early 2010. The isolates were detected from a young male patient who underwent an allogeneic bone marrow transplant and an elderly diabetic outpatient with end-stage renal disease on peritoneal dialysis. The isolates are resistant to various antibiotics including penicillins, cephalosphorins and cefoxitin.
