Abstract

The article focuses on the use of a Problem Solving Justification Scheme for mathematical problem solving. It mentions the cognitive interviews with 20 middle grades students to define the four main categories of Mechanistic, Authoritarian, Language and Visual of the justification scheme. The Commission on Instructionally Supportive Assessment (CISA) expects that standardized tests be aligned with mathematical standards.
