Abstract

The article presents a study on the effectiveness of the concrete-representational-abstract (CRA) teaching with strategy instruction in developing the addition competence of second grade students with mathematical difficulties in the U.S. The findings reveal that CRA with strategy instruction provides an advantage among students in terms of fluency and computation. Students with learning difficulties also benefited more from strategy instruction compared with drill and practice instruction.
