Abstract

The article presents a study which investigates the competency and confidence of prospective teachers with fraction operations as they utilize a college Mathematics content course intended for teachers in the U.S. The findings of the study reveal that the level of competence among prospective teachers varies by fraction operation. They usually predict their performance on multiplying fractions inaccurately with dividing reciprocal fractions and relatively prime denominators.
