Title

TEACHING MATHEMATICAL CONNECTIONS TO FINANCIAL LITERACY IN GRADES K-8: CLARIFYING THE ISSUES.

Authors

Lucey, Thomas A.; Maxwell, Sheryl A.

Abstract

The article discusses the issue concerning the omission of financial literacy, particularly the mathematics education in kindergarten to eighth grade education. It is noted that mathematics teaching relies on the teachers' knowledge of the content and learning process to probe curricular materials suitable for classroom use. It suggests that mathematics teachers should alter their preparation programs to improve students' understandings on personal finance and its mathematical underpinnings
