Title

A CHANGE IN QUESTIONING TACTICS: PROMPTING STUDENT AUTONOMY.

Authors

McConney, Marc; Perry, Michelle

Abstract

The article presents a study which examines the impact of discourse practices of teachers, using Math Trailblazers curriculum, to the autonomy of children in class discussions. It is conceived that in adapting a reform-oriented curriculum, teachers change their approach to teaching mathematics wherein their questioning focuses on the understandings and misconceptions of students. It suggests that such curriculum aligns the teachers to the principles of the Standards.
