Title

The Rhetoric of Sorrow: A Subgenre of Organizational Apologia.

Authors

Jerome, Angela M.; Russell, Mattie

Abstract

This paper proposes a new subgenre of organizational apologia, the rhetoric of sorrow. To illustrate the rhetorical situation in which a rhetoric of sorrow functions to produce a successful apologia campaign and to offer examples of the forms such a rhetoric should take, NASCAR driver Tony Stewart's response to the death of Kevin Ward Jr. is used as exemplar.
