Title

The art of histotripsy: a focused ultrasound application that has the potential to treat from head to toe!

Authors

LeBlang, Suzanne; Ziemlewicz, Timothy J.

Abstract

The article discusses histotripsy, a noninvasive focused ultrasound treatment that uses mechanical breakdown of tissue. It is differentiated from thermal HIFU ablation by its unique method, which spares nontarget tissue and has positive immunologic effects when treating tumors. The FDA recently approved histotripsy for liver tumor treatment, and ongoing research explores its potential applications in various areas, including the abdomen, brain, and musculoskeletal system. The article provides insights into the current state of the field and potential future applications, highlighting the technology's push into clinical adoption.
