Title

Hold It! Women in Television Adventure Series.

Authors

Higashi, Sumiko

Abstract

The article presents a critical look on the significance/role of women in television adventure series. Primarily, the study is a visual analysis of the main title or credit sequence and an episode of the three series "Police Woman," "Bionic Woman," and "Wonder Woman" as the basis for generalizations about women in action/adventure shows. Some reference is made to the most successful crime drama starring women "Charlie's Angles." The author opines that women as heroines of this series encountered serious problems functioning in the male world of violence, but they were further handicapped by having to double as pin-ups.
