Title

Viral pathogenesis: Vpu puts the brakes on ADCC.

Authors

Kåhrström, Christina Tobin

Abstract

The article explores on the genetic mutation of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 viral protein U (Vpu) that lead to the increase of antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC). It states that type I interferon (IFN) help prevent the release and the spread of viruses through tethering to the cell surface. It also notes that infected cells with Vpu mutation A14L has the higher level of antibody binding than infected cells with wild-type virus.
