Abstract: The author comments on ENABLE (European Gram-negative Antibacterial Engine), launched by the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) to deal with the shortage of effective antimicrobial drugs for Gram-negative pathogens. ENABLE is IMI's third public-private partnership. In May 2012, ENABLE started its New Drugs For Bad Bugs (ND4BB) campaign.
