The article presents a study by Y. Kang and colleagues which demonstrates the abilities of total transcript amplification (TTA), a form of single-cell transcriptomics, in overcoming technical difficulties in gene expression changes in bacterial culture. The study used laser capture microdissection and large-scale RNA extractions. Results show that relative abundance between transcript within transcriptome are not sustained by TTA, and the strength of TTA is the ability to compare single cells.
