- Abstract
The article presents a research study on the exchange of cytoplasmic contents of bacteria through bacterial nanotubes. The study uses genetically modified Bacillus subtilis, which expresses green fluorescent protein (GFP), to visualize clearly the transport of cytoplasmic contents under the electron microscope. The authors of the study suggest that nanotubes may represent a form of intercellular bacterial communication, which allows creation of new phenotypes.
