Title

Bacterial Chromosomes: Pol III picks up the pieces.

Authors

Jermy, Andrew

Abstract

The article discusses research being done on Deinococcus Radiodurans. It references a study by D. Slade et al in the 2009 issue of "Cell." It notes the extreme resistance presented by the Deinococcus Radiodurans to ionizing radiation. It also notes that the capacity of D. radiodurans to conduct extended synthesis-dependent strand annealing (ESDSA) to re-establish chromosomal contiguity is the reason behind its unusual tolerance of ionizing radiation.
