Antimicrobials: New drugs for an old scourge?

Abstract

The article highlights the research on how the dormant Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of Tuberculosis (TB), could be treated. It presents situation on the terms of treatment for TB, and the requirement of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) synthesis and maintenance of energized membranes for M. tuberculosis to survive in dormant state. It states the results and the proof of the approach made by the researchers which led to the development of new drugs that can kill dormant bacteria.
