Abstract

The article offers news briefs related to diseases and microbiology. Two new combination vaccines for children were approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) at the end of June 2008 including the Kinrix by GlaxoSmithKline and the Pentacel by Sanofi Pasteur. Smokers are said to be prone to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). A survey released by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) suggests that the number of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is higher in Great Britain.
