- Abstract
The article provides information a study by M. Higes and colleagues on the effect of the bee pathogen Nosema ceranae on bees and bee colony. It mentions that N. ceranae has recently been detected in the honey producer called Apis mellifera. It discusses that colony collapse could be avoided with the antiprotozoan drug called fumagilin, which also decreased N. ceranae. The study suggests that N. ceranae might be a significant factor in collapse disorder aside from mites and viruses.
