Title

Sociomicrobiology: Anti-social bacteria.

Authors

van Ooij, Christiaan

Abstract

The article provides information on a study conducted by K. A. Gibbs and colleagues to identify a genetic programme in the bacterium Proteus mirabilis that allows to distinguish itself from others and prevent mingling. It mentions that the researchers isolated a mutant that no longer recognizes the parent strain as "self" in order to investigate the mechanism that underlies the anti-social behaviour of P. mirabilis.
