Abstract

The article provides information on a study conducted by Julius Lipp and colleagues focusing on the vast microbial sedimentary ecosystem that resides below the sea floor made up of Archaea. It mentions that the researchers examines the lipid concentration as a tracer for microbial biomass in marine sediment. They predict that the subsurface ecosystem of the marine stores 90 petagrams of cellular carbon.
