- Abstract
This article discusses a rare case of a spinal anaplastic ependymoma, a type of tumor that originates from the ependymal cells in the spinal cord. Typically, ependymomas are soft, slow-growing tumors that appear as a single lesion in the lower spinal cord. However, in this case, the patient had multiple lesions in the cervical and thoracic region. The radiographic, intra-operative, and pathology findings were contradictory, with the tumors appearing intradural extramedullary on imaging but intramedullary during surgery. The patient underwent surgical resection, but the tumors recurred, and the patient opted for palliative care. The article emphasizes the importance of early detection and intervention for improved quality of life and extended survival in cases of anaplastic ependymomas.
