Successful treatment of prokinetic-resistant intestinal pseudo-obstruction and pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis in systemic sclerosis with metronidazole.
The article presents a case of an old women with nausea and painless abdominal distension. Medical examination of the patient revealed systemic sclerosis (SSc) developed intestinal pseudo-obstruction and pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis (PCI), which responded promptly with metronidazole. The patient was treated successfully with metronidazole however discontinuation of metronidazole showed recurrence of abdominal symptoms.
