Abstract

The article describes rural surgery in Pakistan. According to the author there is a total lack of accountability within the medical system. As a result, corruption is rampant. If the standards of medical care in the country is to improve, and if trained physicians and surgeons are to be retained, the State must offer better packages for rural doctors. In addition, corruption has to be controlled and the health care budget must be increased.
