Abstract: An editorial is presented which discusses the role of certified reference material (CRM) for the validation of analytical methods and evaluation of comparability and accuracy of results in different laboratories. Topics discussed include the development of CRM, the publication of CRM papers by the journal "Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry," and the production of standard reference materials (SRMs).
