Achievement in General College Biology as Related to High School Background in Science and Mathematics.

Abstract

The article presents the achievement in general college biology as related to high school background in science and mathematics of students from Nebraska. The sample population comprises of 680 freshmen and sophomore college biology students. The students filled out a questionnaire with the list of names, student number, lecture and laboratory section, classification, high school attended and graduation date, name of biology teacher, and extra curricular science activities. The students took a placement exam and results proved that achievement in college biology depend on the student's high school background in science and mathematics subject.
