Trade and environment: evidence from China's manufacturing sector<FNR></FNR><FN>The CCICED (1999) and Xia (1999) studies are among the few examples. These studies found that trade expansion and an increased inflow of FDI have been detrimental to the Chinese environment as export expansion was accompanied by increased pollutant emission and FDI did transfer pollution-intensive industries into China. </FN>
