Abstract

The article discusses the development of an instrument to measure in real time the residence time distribution (RTD) in screw extruders. Features of the instrument include two probes that allow to simultaneously measure RTD at any two different locations of an extruder. Polystyrene is used as the flow materials. The article also examines the effects of various process parameters such as feed rate and screw speed on the RTD.
