Abstract: Buying emission credits to offset the CO2 footprint and achieve climate goals works worse than expected. A study shows that only about one-sixth of the promised emissions can actually be offset. Projects to avoid Fluoroform (HFC-23) emissions performed the best, while certified wind power and forest management projects hardly reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
