The article presents information on the Treatment of SSRI-Resistant Depression in Adolescents study (TORDIA) which aimed to inform clinicians on the best next step in the treatment after a depressed adolescent did not respond to an adequate trial with a selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor (SSRI). Treatment-resistant adolescents were randomized to four treatment strategies. The outcomes of acute treatment response and suicidal events are described. Clinical implications and recommendations for further research are discussed.
