This article discusses a method for the semicontinuous production of ethyl lactate, a chemical used in industrial cleaning and dissolving processes. This process, which utilizes a reactor, one distillation column and a pervaporation unit. This set-up differs from the batch production system for ethyl lactate in that it incorporates a middle vessel into the distillation process to improve the separation of the product from the water used in its production. The economic advantages of this approach are analysed.
