In an article published in Advanced Energy Materials, researchers Huiqing Wang, Dongdong Ye, and their team discuss their synthesis of 2D chitin nanosheets from crab shells for osmotic energy harvesting. The nanosheets were assembled into all-chitin nanosheet membranes, which demonstrated enhanced permeability conversion of biomass materials. The researchers used a reverse electrodialysis system powered by the nanosheets to operate a calculator, timer, and LED lights. This research highlights the potential of chitin-derived nanosheets for sustainable energy applications.
