The article explores the Survey of Adolescent Reading Attitudes (SARA), a survey developed to evaluate adolescents' attitudes towards reading that can be used to motivate such students to read. Noted factors that influence adolescents' reading choices and engagement include their self-perception, sense of agency, and the reading habits of friends and family. According to the author, understanding these attitudes is important to developing lessons that reflect students' interests. Information is also provided on literacy education and reading beyond in-school literacy, as well as how to interpret the results of SARA.
