- Abstract
This article discusses the challenges faced by anesthesiologists when performing venous and arterial cannulation in patients with tattoos. The presence of tattoos can interfere with intubation and decrease visibility of veins. There are differing opinions on whether to puncture through the tattoo, as tattoo ink contains complex compounds that can cause allergic reactions. While complications from epidural analgesia with tattoos have not been convincingly reported, it is generally recommended to avoid puncturing through tattoos if possible. In cases where it cannot be avoided, patients should be informed of the potential risks and give prior consent.
