- Abstract
An essay is presented on the role of nostalgia in anticommunist drama created and performed in Taiwan during the 1950s. According to the author, nostalgia was linked both to government ideology and to the personal nostalgia felt by audience members, whose emotional needs were met by the performances. Details on the play "The Romance of Daba Mountain" (Dabashan zhi lian) are presented. Performativity and the relationship between nostalgia and nationalism are also discussed.
