- Abstract
The aim of the article is to draw basic recommendations focused on improving efficiency of the community health programmes run by the local government units in Poland. The authors present international (United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada) experiences in providing supporting tools aimed at enhancing the communities capacity to deliver health programmes as well as analyse basic current problems regarding realization of the health programmes by the local government units in Poland. The basic recommendation for the Polish system is development of community health programmes supporting system at the national level which should consist of three integrated and interrelated elements: epidemiological data provision system, supporting tools interactive base and continuous education campaign. In addition, for long term objectives achievement two external requirements should be meet, that is: top-down coordination of planned and realized health programmes and provision of stable financing sources
