- Abstract
This paper presents a rigoorus analysis of human gait and resulting skeletal stresses of the lower limbs. The data monitoring and subsequent utilisation procedures of the quantities needed of help formulate the kinematics and kinetics terms, that are employed in the dynamics equations governing the motion of a limb during gait, are first presented. In the governing equations of limb motion, due attention is paid to the formulation of the inertia terms in appropriate rigor, which has not been done hitherto. The analysis of the entire leg and below-knee leg portions are presented taking into account the indeterminacy of the force System; methods are presented for the determination of the unknown joint reactions and muscle forces. Then, employing the joint reactions and muscle forces äs known quantities, a finite element analysis is presented to determine the instantaneous stress states in the lower limb skeleton during gait.
