- Abstract
We manufactured quarter-wave dipole antennas for passive UHF RFID tags by screen printing polymer thick film silver ink on paper. The performance of the fully assembled tags was evaluated in threshold power measurements. The associated uncertainty was assessed based on the hardware specification and variability in repeated measurements. In free-space, the tag achieved the peak read range of 9.5 m at 960 MHz, referred to the emission limit EIRP = 4 W. When embedded in a stack of books, the read range higher than 2.5 meters within the frequency range of 800-1000 MHz was measured all around the stack. This performance is without a doubt sufficient for the applications of paper-based tags in packaging industry, libraries, and postal services, for instance.
