Surgical fires: nightmarish "never events" persist.
- Authors
Vogel, Lauren
- Abstract
The article offers information on surgical fires, a fire in or around a patient during surgery. It mentions oxygen is a major factor in surgical fire cases, while unsafe use of alcohol-based antiseptics and fire involved heat from surgical equipment are also contributing factors to surgical fires. It also mentions recommendation of Canadian Medical Protective Association to "identify, separate and manage the elements of the fire triangle" before procedures to reduce the risk of fires and burns.
