- Abstract
We thank Tretiakow et al.1 for drawing attention to first bite syndrome as a potential problem after parotidectomy or upper neck surgery. Furthermore, first bite syndrome is rarely reported in papers dealing with parotidectomy complications and most publications on the subject are individual case reports, which did not fulfill our systematic review inclusion criteria of a minimum of 10 cases.5 Lastly, since surgery has been described as a treatment of the syndrome,6 studies on first bite syndrome need to be prospective, which was not the case for most of the publications we included.
