- Title
What do "triage" and "informed consent" really mean in practice?
- Authors
JOYNT, G. M.; GOMERSALL, C. D.
- Abstract
The authors explore the ethical and moral dimensions of the practice of triage and the process of obtaining informed consent prior to surgical procedures. They cite a study conducted in an Australian intensive care unit (ICU) to provide interesting local observational data describing the admission, refusal and triage of patients referred for ICU admission. The term triage was also distinguished from related concepts to clarify its meaning in the setting of patient admission to the ICU.
