- Abstract
Objective: Cervical cancer is a disease that negatively affects the quality of life in women and is largely preventable. Primary screening for cervical cancer is the long-standing practice of papsmear/ human papilloma virüs (HPV) testing, and women's attitudes and beliefs towards this test play an important role in early diagnosis. The aim of this study is to analyze whether the Turkish version of the HPV Testing Attitudes and Beliefs Scale (HTABS) is a valid and reliable scale in the context of Turkish society. Material and Methods: The data of this methodological type research was collected between 20.08.2023 and 10.09.2023 by sharing it on social media (such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Telegram) forum pages via the web and by applying it to 230 women who volunteered to participate in the research. In the validity and reliability evaluation, analyzes for all necessary validity and reliability stages were applied. Results: The evaluations of 10 experts who were consulted regarding the applicability and understandability of the items of the HTABS were found to be parallel to each other (intraclass correllation coefficient=0.79; p<0.001). Its internal consistency is high (Cronbach's alpha coefficient values are 0.961 for the 1st factor, 0.856 for the 2nd factor, 0.981 for the 3rd factor and 0.949 for the 4th factor). The item-total score correlation values of the scale vary between 0.422 and 0.960. Pearson correlation coefficients calculated to evaluate construct validity ranged between 0.220 and 0.560 (p<0.05). It has been accepted that the structure of HTABS, consisting of four factors (personal barriers, social norms, confidence, worriers) and 20 items, is applicable in Turkish community. Conclusion: HTABS has been determined to have high validity and reliability. The scale can be used to determine HPV test attitudes and belief levels in Turkish community.
