- Abstract
Eagle's syndrome is a rare disorder associated with calcified stylohyoid ligaments. We describe an adolescent referred for suspicion of pharyngeal fish bone foreign body, with opacity noted in the lateral neck radiography corresponding to the tongue base. Examination under general anaesthesia did not reveal any foreign body. A postoperative computed tomography (CT) scan demonstrated bilateral calcified stylohyoid ligaments consistent with Eagle's syndrome. Early identification of Eagle's syndrome avoids unnecessary intervention, which may increase morbidity.
