- Abstract
The scope of this project is to reflect on access and permanence of indigenous people in universities considering the experience with the diversity program, initiated by MEG. After evaluating the experience and analyzing the document of federal public policies, it has been considered that a positive deed has been fulfilled. However, complexity is one thing that was evidenced in this context, once universities are composed of non-indigenous people, a majority of whom are not interested in appropriating the provided cultural diversity in a way that will guarantee the identity and alterity of indigenous people in the college world. Therefore, this is a signal that major attention is essential in public policies and implementation of actions that seek to guarantee both access and permanence of indigenous people. The viability of academic studies would help to evaluate the impact of these policies, not just in the context of the university, but also in the daily life of indigenous communities.
