- Title
Ancient "Jaws" had monster bite.
- Abstract
The article provides information on the extinct creature, Dunkleosteus terrelli, who could bring its jaws together with a remarkable force of 5,000 newtons or 1,100 pounds of force in the U.S. This is a prehistoric fish that roamed the seas 400 million years ago that had the most powerful bite of any known fish. This performance surpasses all living fish and ranks up there with some of the most powerful bites of all time. According to scientists, the way its teeth were organized in the jaw meant it could focus its bite into a small area with the incredible pressure of nearly 150 million pascals or 22,000 pound per square inch.
