- Abstract
The article focuses on the application of vertical connections as developed by teachers to ensure that students use higher-level thinking to improve the community and engage in environmental protection. The project is designed to span grade levels wherein students will focus on healthy marine ecosystems in the sixth grade, interdisciplinary studies on biodiversity and development in the seventh grade, and collaboration to create a better biosphere in the eight grade. The project shows a high level of student engagement and achievement. Finally, it gives the students the confidence they need to do science inquiry and sustain healthy communities.
