- Title
‘HONOR EST A NILO’: THE ORIGINS OF AN ANAGRAM FOR ‘HORATIO NELSON’.
- Authors
GOLDSMITH, JEREMY
- Abstract
The article examines the origins of the discovery that the Latin motto "Honor est a Nilo," or "Honour is from the Nile," is an anagram of Horatio Nelson, the name of the famed admiral Lord Nelson who won the Battle of the Nile in 1798. It cites an 1811 American magazine crediting historian Charles Burney as making the connection.
