- Title
COLUMBUS'S EGG IN MILTON'S PARADISE LOST.
- Authors
Yoshinaka, Takashi
- Abstract
The author focuses on a story about an egg and Christopher Columbus written by Girolamo Benzoni, which was referenced in John Milton's poem "Paradise Lost." According to the author, the connection between Benzoni and Milton stems from the influence of author Samuel Purchas, who translated Benzoni's work in 1625, on Milton. The author compares the depictions of Columbus and Satan in Purchas' and Milton's works, and discusses the influence of international politics on Milton.
