- Abstract
CHOW et al.1 reported that a multiple component lipotropic elixir could increase the absorption of orally administered vitamin B12 by healthy subjects. It was afterwards claimed2 that D-sorbitol was the substance in the elixir which possessed this quality, and radioactive studies in rats by Greenberg and his colleagues3 supported these results. Morgan and Yudkin4 produced experimental evidence suggesting that sorbitol could render rats independent of dietary sources of vitamins of the B group.
