- Abstract
The article discusses the female calling behavior of Helicoverpa armigera (H übner) in Cry1Ac from Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt). It states that H. armigera has a strong capacity to develop resistance to transgenic cotton that expresses Cry1Ac toxin. It developed a refuge strategy wherein individuals of resistant strains from Bt cotton fields can mate with the susceptible ones from the refuge areas. The effectiveness relies on the random mating between the Bt-susceptible and Bt-resistant strains. It shows that the lower proportion of the calling behavior of the female from the resistant strain also reduced the mating frequency of the resistant strain.
